The company was started by Earnest S. Wheaton in 1945 as Clipper Van Lines. Originally, the firm had services in 22 states. In 1954, the company’s name changed to Wheaton Van Lines, Inc. Shortly after, Wheaton Van Lines expanded its moving and storage operations outside the continental U.S. to England, France, Germany and Italy. In 1972, it received a 48-state, non-radial authority, before becoming the first moving carrier in the nation to hold complete 50-state authority from the Interstate Commerce Commission in 1973. Company representatives changed Wheaton Van Line’s name in 1987 to represent its role as a national and international moving company: Wheaton World Wide Moving.
Wheaton World Wide Moving has received the Good Housekeeping Seal for quality service every year since 1964.
Wheaton’s moving and storage services have earned it the position as official mover of Steinway & Sons pianos for concerts and tours since 1990.
